Stamina Li / Sta’Sax

STAMINA LI, also known as STA’SAX, is a Martinique-born reggae artist, chanter and saxophonist whose journey through music spans more than two decades across the Caribbean, the UK and Europe.

Raised in a deeply musical environment influenced by Bèlè, Compas, Reggae, Jazz, Biguine, Blues and traditional Caribbean rhythms, Stamina Li developed a passion for music from an early age through the guidance of his father, himself an accomplished musician and instrumentalist. Inspired by both roots reggae culture and legendary jazz figures such as Charlie Parker, he built a unique artistic identity combining conscious vocals, live instrumentation and sound system energy.

His early years in Martinique were shaped by local sound system culture, where music became both a spiritual expression and a voice for the community. In the mid-1990s, Stamina Li began recording professionally and quickly became recognised for his lyrical style, live performances and dedication to authentic roots and culture music.

After relocating to France and later the UK, he became heavily involved in the European reggae and dub scene, co-founding the original Wassmuffin sound system movement and contributing to numerous live events, radio shows, community projects and independent productions. Through these foundations, Wassmuffin evolved into a wider creative platform connecting music, culture and community initiatives.

Over the years, Stamina Li has performed across the UK, Europe and Africa, appearing at festivals, dub gatherings and sound system events while building a strong reputation within roots reggae culture.

As STA’SAX, he has also become widely respected for his live saxophone performances and improvisational style, blending reggae, dub and jazz influences into a distinctive sound recognised throughout the international sound system scene. Releases such as “Skank To Azania”, “Magic Blow”, “Learn Up The Amharic”, “Satta Steppa” and “Breath Of Life” have helped establish his name amongst reggae and dub audiences worldwide.

Throughout his career, Stamina Li has worked alongside respected musicians, producers and artists while also featuring on various independent projects connected to prominent names on the scene.

Alongside recording and performing, he has remained committed to community-based cultural work, artist development and independent music distribution through initiatives connected to Sta’Kulcha Music Distribution, Wassmuffin Academy, Togeda Inna Di Gideon and 12Jewels (Horns Of Jericho).

Today, Stamina Li continues to record, perform and collaborate internationally as both a vocalist and instrumentalist, carrying forward a message rooted in culture, consciousness, unity and musical authenticity.
